St. Patrick’s Day in the classroom is one holiday that’s simply fun to celebrate! Want to add some interesting and creative ideas to make the holiday more festive in your classroom? Here are 7+ St. Patrick’s Day Activities your student will love.

1. Fun St. Patrick’s Day Activities by Adding a McTwist
When I was student teaching, this is one of the holidays I remember most. Why? Because my mentor teacher worked hard to make even the smallest moments memorable, and not always in a big, flashy way. She had a way of making everything more fun with her contagious spirit and unique flair. One of the ways she did this during her St. Patrick’s Day Activities in the classroom was simple…
Add “O” or “Mc” to the beginning of students’ last names. For example, students could choose to be O’Smith or McSmith for the day. Write their last name on a shamrock and pin it to their shirt. They can’t wait until you call on them for the day to hear their “new” name!
2. St. Patrick’s Day Activities: Lucky Charms Graph
Nowadays, there are stores that sell only the Lucky Charm marshmallows, which makes this project a bit easier. If you’re not able to do that, Lucky Charms makes a great snack, and students can save the marshmallows for later in the day to complete this activity. Graph the marshmallows and discuss with a partner which they had the most of, least, same, which is their favorite, etc.

Students can also do this as part of a math activity during centers by measuring out their own cup of cereal with a measuring cup and creating a graph.
3. Scavenger Hunt
I got this from Food Fun Family magazine, which has families do a scavenger hunt at home. You could send this home with families to see how many of the items they can find at home. However, this gave me the idea to do a scavenger hunt of things that are green.
Divide students into groups and supply them with a list of clues, or you could start a timer to see how many things they can find in the classroom that are green. Have them write the items down in a list to practice spelling/writing, and make a comprehensive class list once it’s time for everyone to share.
4. Sink the Pot St. Patrick’s Day Activities
Have students make a hypothesis or prediction about how many pennies it will take to sink the pot. They can draw a picture of their science experiment, record how many pennies it took for the pot to sink, and write about how they performed the experiment.
There are several variations of this experiment. You can have students complete different steps of the activity through the week. Or, they can complete this during one lesson or as a science center for the week.
5. Fizzing Pots St. Patrick’s Day Activities for Kids
A different take on the traditional volcano experiment, this lesson is great for students that are learning about states of matter. Students can complete the activity in small groups, or in a whole group with the teacher leading the activity and asking/answering questions to gauge student learning.
Another idea is to use multiple pots and fill them with different colors to practice color mixing. Either way, this simple activity is definitely going to get the attention from your students!
6. St. Patrick’s Day Hat
No matter if you choose to use green or white paper cups or toilet paper rolls, this hate doesn’t require a template to make. Plus, it’s simply adorable!

These would look fantastic on little one’s heads in the classroom throughout the day and would be a great morning work activity once students arrive for the day.
